Snail Flower Vine (Cochliasanthus caracalla)
Vigna caracalla syn. Phaseolus caracalla Cochliasanthus caracalla, commonly known as Snail Vine or Corkscrew Flower, is a stunning tropical climber admired for its fragrant, spiral-shaped blooms in shades of purple, cream, and lavender. It typically grows 3–6 metres high with a spread of 1–2 metres, making it perfect for trellises, fences, and pergolas. This vigorous vine prefers full sun to light shade for best flowering. Water regularly, allowing the soil to drain well while remaining consistently moist during active growth. Light pruning and occasional feeding will encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.
The plant was previously known as Vigna caracalla and even Phaseolus caracalla, but modern botanical classification places it in its own genus as Cochliasanthus caracalla.
