Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis)

Juniperus communis (also known as Common Juniper Berry) is a hardy evergreen shrub known for its aromatic berries, which are widely used as a culinary spice. The ripe, blue-black berries have a distinctive piney, slightly citrus flavour and are commonly used to season meats and sauces, and are best known for flavouring gin. While the berries are edible (in moderation), they are rich in natural oils and have a long history in traditional cooking and preservation. It grows 1 to 2 meters high in full sun to part shade. Can be easily pruned to maintain a smaller shape if desired.
