Chempedak
The Chempedak (also known as Cempedak or Champedak) is a relative of Jackfruit that is native to Southeast Asia. The soft-fleshed fruits are very sweet with slight fibre. The fruit of the Chempedak is smaller and less fibrous than the Jackfruit. It has a strong odour, with the fruits smelling like durians when ripe; however, once the peel is removed, this will remove most of the odour. Chempedaks are tropical in their growing requirements, needing a warmer position than Jackfruit, a moist position, and deep fertile soil in full sun. Great eaten fresh or green in cooking.
