Aniseed Myrtle (Syzygium anisatum, also known as Backhousia anisata) is an Australian native bush tucker tree prized for its highly aromatic leaves with a sweet aniseed and licorice flavour. The leaves are used fresh or dried in teas, desserts, seafood, and sauces, and can substitute for fennel or anise. This ornamental rainforest tree grows about 3β8 m tall, produces white fluffy flowers in spring, and prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Its leaves are also rich in antioxidants and are sometimes used in skincare and natural aromatherapy products.
